Goat merch!

Last week’s concert at the Artel was a major success - thanks so much to the Artel for organizing and hosting it, the bands for their amazing performances, and of course all of you who came and showed your support.

There is another concert happening tomorrow (Tuesday) night, hosted by the Indie Lounge Night at the Mansion. It starts at 9PM, and will have a quieter, more chilled out vibe than the last one. Hope to see you there!

If you celebrate any kind of gift-giving occasion this season, may we recommend some Goat merchandise? We have four items that would be sure to please any fair trade coffee-lover in your life.

T-SHIRTS by the amazing Julian Berry at Ironclad Graphics, featuring a beautiful bright red print on a black shirt. $20 for the new ones, and we still have some old ones for $10.

COFFEE MUGS, made in Canada, featuring a black logo on a white mug. $4.99 each.

PREPAID COFFEE CARDS; for the price of 10 coffees, you can get a punch-card good for 11 coffees - the bonus coffee is on us, in thanks for your support!

and, hot off the presses…

TRAVEL MUGS! These have been a long time in the making, but well worth the wait. Red logo on a sleek black mug; no tumbler in town looks this awesome. And, even better, these mugs are union made in the USA with 100% recycled materials. $15 each.

We don’t mean to keep repeating ourselves, but we have to thank you again for your continued support. We feel the love, and we hope you do too.

Some clarification…

Hello to all of our readers and subscribers!

You may have read the recent story in the Journal about us. We want to thank the Journal for following up with us and publishing a new article to correct some of the information from the first article. As with any mass communication, there is the potential for some misunderstanding, and we’d like to address some of the concerns that have newly arisen.

1. We recognize that fundraisers are a short-term influx of cash, and they will not address the more fundamental problem of revenue. The money for the fundraisers is specifically targeted at much-needed improvements to the business that we cannot currently afford - such as renovating the washrooms, or purchasing a new fridge display case. We see these as investments that will help our business long-term.

2. Some members of our staff are choosing to donate their tips to the Goat. This is both voluntary and anonymous. No one is being coerced by the management; this is impossible, since the workers are the management.

3. We acknowledge that it’s unusual for a business to run fundraisers or to ask for donations. However, we believe that we occupy a unique position in Kingston’s downtown. For example, we don’t know of any other businesses that are dedicated to the values of anti-oppression, or that provide food to those who can’t afford it.

Our customers consistently tell us that the Goat means much more to them than just a café or restaurant that they like - it’s one of the focal points of Kingston’s arts, activist, and academic communities, and it’s a significant cultural contribution to the town. We are calling out to the public as an expression of the connection we feel with the community, beyond the level of an ordinary downtown business.

Thank you all for your continued concern about the state of the Goat. If you’d like to email us for any reason, please contact questions@thegoat.ca

The first fundraiser is being organized and hosted by our good friends in the Artel, and it happens this Wednesday - details in the “Events” tab above. Hope to see you there. It’s gonna get loud.

Dear friends,

We’d like to thank you all very much for the outpouring of support we’ve received in the past few weeks. We’ve been touched by the many messages of support, concern, and encouragement.

We’ve set up this website to clarify the Goat’s current circumstances. To dispel some of the more grim rumours that have circulated, we’ve published an open letter to the community, which you can read above in “An open letter…”.

If you’d like to find out about the first few community-organized events in support of the Goat, read the “Events” page. It will be updated regularly as more events come up.

Thanks again for your continued support. Please stay tuned for the latest news on events, fundraisers, and other ways to get involved - follow this blog, or our Twitter account (links above).

Much love,

The Goats
